Description
The New England Shoemaker's strike is the largest pre-civil war sike in US history. The strike resulted when manufacuturers cut wages of shoemakers. Because shoemakers stopped working, the strike finally ended and wage levels were restored. But, still as a result of this strike, 3,000 shoe makers left the industry to find other employment opportunities. This spread unionization throughout New England.
