Description
Orbison illusion. Both the rectangle surrounding the pattern and the perfect square within the pattern appear to be distorted. One of the most commonly accepted explanations of this is that the brain is responding to what it perceives as depth. The repeating lines give the image perspective and both the rectangle and the square are seen as existing within that. They are distorted accordingly, as the brain adjusts their real shape to approximate their shape were they actually in 3 dimensions.
