Description
Macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) enhances disease aggressiveness and the metastatic potential of pancreatic cancer cells by inducing epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). This image, obtained with confocal microscopy, shows enhanced vimentin expression (pink), a mesenchymal marker, in pancreatic cancer cells stably overexpressing MIF. Pancreatic cancer arises when cells in the pancreas, a glandular organ behind the stomach, begin to multiply out of control and form a mass.
