Description
Pennsylvania State Capitol and annex buildings, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The Susquehanna River is in the background. The original capitol building was designed in the Beaux-Arts style, with strong Italian Renaissance overtones, by architect Joseph M. Huston. Built in 1906 - listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977 - declared a National Historic Landmark in 2006. The building was architecturally inspired by St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, and many consider it the finest state capitol building in the United States.
