Description
Photoreceptors of the eye, responsible for turning light energy into electrical impulses that are passed along nerves to the brain. Disc-shaped visual pigments reside inside photoreceptor cells and contain molecules, specifically rhodopsin (composed of the molecules opsin and retinene), which change their shape when exposed to light, triggering an electrical impulse.
