The Pyramid of the Sun is in the distance, and seen in the foreground are what is now believed to have been ceremonial platforms, which were once topped with temples.The Pyramid of the Sun is the third largest pyramid in the world. Rising to about 230 feet, with a square base, 730 feet along each side. It was built around 200 AD. It is the focal point of the Teotihuacan archaeological site complex. Teotihuacan is located about 30 miles northeast of Mexico City. Teotihuacan, is an archaeologically significant site not only for it's pyramids, but for is's complex multi-family residential compounds, the Avenue of the Dead, and it's vibrant murals. The Aztecs found the city abandoned, and named the pyramid.
