The Ridgehead, Melamphaes simus, inhabits tropical and subtropical waters of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Nerve networks can be seen beneath the translucent scales and tissues on the sides of the fishes head. This individual was captured in a trawl in the Gulf of Mexico, 2015, from between 200 and 400 meters depth.
