Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of human sperm. Sperm is formed in the testicle. Each 3ml of semen ejaculated by a man contains approximately 200-300 million sperm. The sperm cell that meets with a female ovum, begins immediately to penetrate it. The head of the penetrating sperm then detaches and moves to the core of the ovum, in order to unite with it. The genetic information of both membrane cells coalesces and the cell begins to divide. Magnification 3000x
