Description
Color enhanced transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of Steptococcus agalactiae bacteria. This form of streptococci is the cause of infections in 1% of newborns, especially in weakened infants (low weight, difficult birth). The transmission takes place at birth, because in many women the genital mucous membranes are populated with this pathogen (asymptomatic). S. agalactiae can cause neonatal sepsis, meningitis, wound infections and urinary tract infections. Transmission electron microscope, magnification 18,0001 (at 15x12 cm image size).
