Color enhanced SEM (scanning electron micrograph) of Streptococcus sanguinis, nonmotile, cocci in chains. The gram-positive, alphahemolytic bacteria is found in normal mouth flora. Streptococcus sanguinis is common in dental plaque and can spread to the blood stream and heart during dental surgery, causing subacute bacterial endocarditis. (Width 12.4 micrometers)
