Artist's Description

An artist's projection of the finished Tesla Tower from the magazine "Electrical Experimenter," published in 1919. The tower, erected in Shoreham, Long Island, New York, was 187 feet high and the spherical top was 68 feet in diameter, but it was never completed. It was intended by Tesla to be a massive source of wireless power. Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was a Serbian-American inventor, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, and futurist. He was an important contributor to the use of commercial electricity, and is best known for developing the modern alternating current (AC) electrical supply system. Because of his 1894 demonstration of short range wireless communication through radio and as the eventual victor in the "War of Currents" (Tesla vs. Edison), he was widely respected as one of the greatest electrical engineers who worked in America.
