Description
The Templo Mayor was one of the main temples of the Aztecs in their capital city of Tenochtitlan, which is now Mexico City. It was completely destroyed by Cortes. In 1978 electrical workers, digging uncovered a large 10 ft round artifact. 15 buildings were torn down, and the site became an archaeological dig, which continues today. The Templo Mayor archaeological site is located in the Zocalo, (the downtown Historic Centro), area of Mexico City. View of serpent head sculptures.
