Thomas "Tom" Paine (1737 -1809), author, pamphleteer, radical, inventor, intellectual, revolutionary, and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States; shown here alongside his work "Common Sense." He anonymously wrote and published the pro-independence monograph pamphlet on January 10, 1776. It is signed "Written by an Englishman."
