Description
Gaston Tissandier (1843-1899) and Albert Tissandier (1839-1906). Gaston was a French chemist, meteorologist, aviator and editor. His brother Albert was an illustrator. In April 1875, Gaston reached the altitude of 8,600 meters in a balloon with Joseph Croce-Spinelli and Theodore Sivel. Lack of oxygen killed both of his companions; Gaston survived but became deaf.
