Petra, Jordan. Carved from rock, this treasury (Al Khazneh) was built by the Nabataeans, whose empire lasted from the 4th century BC to the 4th century AD. A long and narrow gorge must be traversed to reach these architectural ruins. This is a World Heritage site.
