Tropical Storm Allison. Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image of Tropical Storm Allison on June 11, 2001. In this true-color image the storm center is located over the Mississippi-Alabama border. A slow-moving storm with sustained winds around 60 miles per hour (97 km per hour), Allison caused at least 20 fatalities, due to flooding, high winds and lightning. In southeastern Texas, roughly 3,500 homes were damaged by flood waters.
