Description
Color-enhanced SEM of a tungsten filament from a halogen lamp. Incandescent tungsten wire is used because it can be heated very strongly without melting. Halogen lamps light up at a temperature of about 3100 degrees Kelvin (3473° C). The melting point of tungsten is 3695° K (3422° C). The bright spots in the glass are fused tungsten which condensed on the inner wall of the glass bulb during normal operation of the lamp. Magnification 24001 (at 15x12 cm image size).
