Artist's Description

1850 illustration of English chemist William Thomas Brande (January 11, 1788 - February 11, 1866). Brande was the first to isolate the element lithium, and was famous for his texts, a Manual of Chemistry, first published in 1819, and a Dictionary of Science, Literature and Art in 1842, among other works. This image has been colorized.
