The announcing of the armistice on November 11, 1918, was the occasion for a monster celebration in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thousands massed on all sides of the replica of the Statue of Liberty on Broad Street, and cheered unceasingly. Armistice Day is commemorated every year on November 11, to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of WWI and Germany, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of WWI, which took effect on the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918. Most countries changed the name of the holiday after WWII, to honor veterans of that and subsequent conflicts.
