The Treaty of Versailles was one of the peace treaties at the end of WW. It was signed on June 28, 1919, exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Although the armistice, signed on November 11, 1918, ended the actual fighting, it took six months of negotiations at the Paris Peace Conference to conclude the peace treaty. Germany was prohibited from the arms trade, limits were imposed on the type and quantity of weapons and prohibited from the manufacture or stockpile of chemical weapons, armored cars, tanks and military aircraft. Article 198 prohibited Germany from having an air force, including naval air forces, and required Germany to hand over all aerial related materials.
