Description
Alcoholism. A statesman pays the price for having imbibed beyond his capacity. He vomits while the other man holds his wig to keep it from falling into the bowl. Underlying this caricature of alcoholism is the seriousness of this disease. Alcohol is an addictive substance which can cause irreversible damage to the heart, liver, brain and nervous system. Engraving by John Collier (1708-1786), May 1773. Tim Bobbin is the pseudonym of John Collier.
