Description
Ushibori in Hitachi Province is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. The thirty-sixth print in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. Shows an elderly man emptying a bucket over the side of a houseboat. Mount Fuji is a frequent subject of Japanese art especially after 1600, when Edo (Tokyo) became the capital and people saw the mountain while traveling on the Tokaido road. Mount Fuji is one of Japan's "Three Holy Mountains". The ukiyo-e genre of art flourished in Japan from the 17th through 19th centuries.
