Description
Pollen from an oak tree (Quercus robur), Pollen tubes grow out of the germ openings, or apertures (yellow), when the pollen lands on a stigma. Pollen grains are the carriers of the male genetic material. They can trigger allergies in sensitive people. The oak is a deciduous tree up to 40m high. It occurs everywhere in the flatlands of Europe, spreading from northeastern Russia to southeastern Spain. The oak is cultivated as an important forest tree in many areas. The flowering period is from May to June. Scanning electron microscope, magnification 2500 1 (at 12x12cm image size).
