Description
The Pacific Blackdragon (Idiacanthus antrostomas) inhabits the Eastern Pacific. A bioluminescent lure is attached to a long rod-like structure that hangs off of the fish's jaw. Presumably, small fish and invertebrates that move in too close to examine the lure are eaten. This species migrates at night closer to the surface and back down into the depths by day. This specimen was trawled from 1000 feet depth off of Monterey, California, in November 2007.
