Description
Metal reactivity. Zinc-coated (galvanized) nail (right) and iron nail (left) are placed in test tubes containing saturated citric acid, H3C6H5O7. Zinc reacts more vigorously than iron, both producing hydrogen bubbles Zn + H3C6H5O7 -> Zn3(C6H5O7)2 + H2 and Fe + H3C6H5O7 -> Fe3(C6H5O7)2 + H2. These are examples of a single displacement reaction.
