Description
Metal reactivity, Photo 1 of 2. Zinc-coated (galvanized) nail (Photo 1) and iron nail (Photo 2) are placed in test tubes containing saturated citric acid, H3C6H5O7. Zinc reacts more vigorously than iron, both producing hydrogen bubbles Zn + H3C6H5O7 -> Zn3(C6H5O7)2 + H2 and Fe + H3C6H5O7 -> Fe3(C6H5O7)2 + H2. These are examples of a single displacement reaction.
