Description
Color enhanced freeze-fracture scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the bacteria Streptococcus thermophilus. (aka S. salivarius) It is a thermophile organism capable of living at the high temperatures. This bacteria is used in the manufacture of yogurt. It is added to milk together with the bacteria Lactobacillus acidophilus and incubated at a high temperature to produce yogurt. These streptococci are dividing by binary fission.
