Description
Chest x-ray of a 44 year old woman smoker, PA view, showing diffuse interstitial infiltrates suggestive of an atypical pneumonia. The patient was severely short of breath, with an SaO2 of 85. The differential diagnosis in this situation is broad and can include common atypical bacterial pneumonia organisms (Mycoplasma, chlamydia sp, legionella, etc). ARDS can present like this with diffuse infiltrates and hypoxia. Influenza is also on the list of pathology.
