Description
Baker, this one-pound female squirrel monkey, was, along with her fellow monkey Able, the first living creature to survive a space flight. On May 28, 1959, she was fired 300 miles into space in the nose cone of a Jupiter missile AM-18. Her flight lasted 15 minutes. She and Able were recovered near Puerto Rico in the Atlantic Ocean.
