Description
This color enhanced axial (cross section) CT of the brain was obtained after a patient was resuscitated from a cardiac arrest. There are symmetrical areas of low density (red areas) in the deep regions of the brain (the basal ganglia) which represents areas of infarction (stroke) due to lack of blood flow as a result of the cardiac arrest. These regions are especially vulnerable to lack of oxygen and subsequent damage.
