Description
Color enhanced scanning electron microscope (SEM) of carrot pollen. Carrots (Daucus carota var. sativa) are grown from seeds for their edible enlarged red roots which contain, among others, pro-vitamin A called beta-carotene. Their pollen-bearing flowers, which are small and white, don't grow until the year following that in which the seeds were sown. Image width 51.3 micrometers. Magnification 1,950x if printed 10 cm wide.
