Description
Transmission electron micrograph of Coxiella burnetii, the bacteria that causes Q fever. Coxiella burnetii is a small Gram-negative bacterium that is highly resistant to environmental stresses such as high temperature, osmotic pressure, and ultraviolet light. The Q fever infection results from inhalation of a spore-like small cell variant, and from contact with the milk, urine, feces, vaginal mucus, or semen of infected animals.
