Entitled "The Inferno according to Dante; in the centre Lucifer who holds damned souls and in his talons seven kings, surrounded by damned souls being tortured by devils, after a fresco in the Campo Santo, Pisa." Lucifer is a name that refers to the Devil. Inferno is the first part of Dante Alighieri's 14th century epic poem Divine Comedy. The Inferno tells the journey of Dante through Hell, guided by the ancient Roman poet Virgil. In the poem, Hell is depicted as nine concentric circles of torment located within the Earth.
