Description
The Barrens Topminnow (Fundulus julisia) is a federally listed endangered species. Isolated populations inhabit only a few springs in the Barrens Plateau area of Cannon, Coffee, and Warren counties, Tennessee. The species has been displaced by Mosquito Fish (Gambusia affinis) and has suffered from habitat loss. This composite image depicts developmental stages from an egg only a day old (bottom left) to a late stage egg (bottom right) to a newly hatched fry (above the eggs) to a juvenile fish (third from top) to an adult female (second from top) to a colored up male (top). The species is being bred in captivity and these populations are the best chance for the survival of this species into the future.
