Description
This map shows solar-induced fluorescence, a plant process that occurs during photosynthesis, from August through October 2014 as measured by NASA's Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2. This period is fall in the Northern Hemisphere and springtime in the Southern Hemisphere. Purple indicates the lowest levels of fluorescence, red indicates the highest. Photosynthesis is highest over the tropical forests of the Southern Hemisphere but still occurs in much of the U.S. Grain Belt. The northern forests have shut down for the winter.
