Description
Fresh Hamsi in a bazaar at Izmir, Turkey. The European anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) is a forage fish somewhat related to the herring. In areas around Black Sea the European anchovy is called Hamsi, which dominates fishing and processing, fresh, canned and frozen. In Turkey, it is the staple of local Black Sea cuisine, especially as fast food with beer.
