Description

A molecular model of insulin, a peptide hormone produced in the pancreas by beta cells in the islets of Langerhans. Insulin is responsible for regulating the body's metabolism when blood glucose levels have risen after a meal, and will signal cells to increase their uptake and storage of glucose. Insulin is produced and stored in the body as a hexamer, and will be converted to a monomer once activated.
