Description
Chlamydia infection. Light micrograph of the cervical smear of a woman patient showing infection with Chlamydia trachomatis, a virus- like bacterium which is spread by sexual contact. Uninfected healthy cells appear blue. Infected cells are stained pink due to the presence of Chlamydia bacteria inside them. Chlamydia causes a number of genital, eye and lymph node infections, as well as nonspecific urethritis. It may also have a role in causing cancers and infertility. Chlamydia may be treated with antibiotic drugs such as tetracycline or erythromycin. Magnification unknown.
