Color-enhanced Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of lung tissue, showing two ruptured capillaries with erythrocytes (red blood cells) visible in the breaks. Capillaries are generally 6-30 microns in diameter and are the primary site of oxygen transfer. The yellow cells are epithelial cells of the terminal bronchi, connective tissue is shown in gray. Magnification is 30001, or 2000x at 10 cm wide.
