Andes Mountains East of Santiago, Chile. The Andes are South America's longest mountain range, forming a continuous chain of highland along the western coast of South America. It is over 4,400 miles long, 300 miles wide in some parts, and averages 13,000 ft. high. Rancheros are common in the foothills east of Santiago, Chile, raising livestock along the Mapocho River.
