Description
Soy (Glycine max) leaf infected with a rust fungus (genus Phakopsora). The spores can be seen breaking out through the leaf surface in several places. Soybeans are a primary source of food for many people, and thus one of the world's most important crops. Scientists are working towards the creation of a genetically modified soybean using genes from fungus-resistant plants. Scanning Electron Micrograph, magnification 18001 at 12x12 cm.
