Description
Illustration of Trichomonas vaginalis. T. vaginalis is a protozoan pathogen of the genital tract and is sexually transmitted. There is no cyst in the life cycle, so transmission is via the trophozoite state. Most people infected with Trichomoniasis are asymptomatic. Symptomatic infections are characterized by a white discharge from the genital tract and itching. This illustration shows 4-6 flagella on each organism, a nucleus with attached axostyle (green), and an undulating membrane.
