Description
In 1984 the Soviet Union launched the Vega program, marking a new era of international cooperation for the Soviet space program. Part of this mission was a probe of the atmosphere of Venus. Pictured here is the solar system probe bus and landing apparatus for the experiment, a balloon carrying scientific instruments that was released into Venus' atmosphere to measure cloud activity.
