Description
Yerkes Observatory, Williams Bay, Wisconsin in 1937. Founded in 1892 by Charles Tyson Yerkes, the institution belongs to the University of Chicago. The big dome at the left houses the 40-inch (1.02 m) refractor telescope, the largest achromatic refractor ever put into practical astronomical use, while the smaller domes contain a 24-inch reflecting instrument and a 12-inch refractor.
