Ruins of Nob Hill, San Fransisco, on May 29th 1906, photographed by George E. Lawrence. San Francisco was hit by the great earthquake of April 1906, which was followed by days of fire. Over 3000 people died in this natural disaster. There was over $400 million (in 1906 dollars) in damage.
