Description
Residents of San Francisco preparing a meal outdoors after San Francisco earthquake of 1906. Thousands of San Franciscans were left homeless after the 1906 earthquake, and even those whose homes were undamaged were forbidden from cooking indoors by order of the mayor. Fires raged for days after the quake. Around 30,000 buildings were destroyed and more than 3000 people died in this disaster. There was over $400 million (in 1906 dollars) in damage.
