Description
Scanning electron micrograph of the germs inside a bath duck. This duckling was cut open after about one year of use and examined microscopically. Inside, there was a rich, dark gray biofilm of bacteria, fungi and organic bath residues such as soap residue, dander etc. The photo shows a dried biofilm with fungal hyphae and a variety of bacteria. In a Swiss study, scientists found between 5 million and 75 million cells per square centimeter on the plastic surfaces of the rubber ducks. In 60 percent of the well cleaned and of those used in dirty water ducklings, various fungi were found, and 80 percent of all ducklings harbored potentially pathogenic bacteria, including Legionella or the hospital germ Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Magnification 10,000x (at 15 cm image width). (Rubber duck SS21874129, SS21874173, SS21874130)
