Description
Ceramic high-temperature superconductor. Colored scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a ceramic, high-temperature superconductor. This super- conducting metal material is made up of lanthanum, barium and copper-oxide. Superconductivity occurs in certain materials at very low temperatures. Superconductors carry electrical current with little or no resistance and exclude magnetic fields. They have a range of potential applications and much research has been carried out into the search for materials which are superconducting at high temperatures. From the Research Laboratory of IBM Zurich, Switzerland. Magnification x4,000 at 6x6cm size.
