Description
Wild grass growing along the banks of Lake Okeechobee while cyanobacteria or blue-green algae laden water laps at the shore. This algae is toxic and has been shown to possible cause ALS, Alzeiheimers Disease and cancerous liver tumors with sufficient exposure. This algae formed this year as a result of record spring rains resulting in an excessive amount of runoff from surrounging farmlands. The algae covers in excess of 80% of the surface of Lake Okeechobee, a 730 sq mile lake in central Florida. It is known as FLorida’s Inland Sea.
